From only having 12 players available for the trip to Wolverhampton we had 6 substitutes available for this fixture following a great turnout. The extra numbers howeber seemed to affect the players intensity levels and Newcastle never really got a foothold in this game.
Newcastle went into an early lead through Kian breaking down the left for a fine opening try but Whitchurch hit back from the kickoff and leveled straight away.
The boys heads dropped immediately and they never recovered. The lack of intensity showed as tackles were missed and Whitchurch dominated the breakdown. Newcastle managed to keep in the game with 4 more tries from Kian and a solo effort from olly skinner but the scoreline flattered newcastle in the end losing by a solitary try.
The loss was down to a lack of confidence and belief rather than a lack of skill but no one could argue Whitchurch didn't deserve the result on the day.
Hopefully this is a blip and will give the boys something to work on for the rest of the season.
